Risë Stevens as Carmen

Dear Metropolitan Opera Friends,

Ever since I first stepped onto the stage of the Old Met, singing Mignon with Ezio Pinza, the Metropolitan Opera has been part of my life. At a time when European singers dominated opera, it was thrilling to be making my Met debut and having it broadcast live! There followed 347 more performances at the Met, 34 of which were broadcast. Perhaps you heard or saw some of them.

Since I retired from the stage, I have been privileged to be a Managing Director of the Metropolitan Opera. And, with an eye always on the future, I have been able to devote my time to working with the National Council Auditions and with The Encore Society, the Met’s way of thanking friends who remember the company in their long-range plans. Because I am also interested in the future of this opera company that has meant so much to me, I have included my beloved Met in my estate plan.
