Mori Biddulph

Jan Peerce and Irra Petina in Rigoletto
Dear Metropolitan Opera,
My introduction to opera came from the movies, specifically One Night of Love, starring Grace Moore. There were several movies made at that time with Lily Pons, Gladys Swarthout and others who became familiar names. Radio also featured classical music and opera, and it supplied virtually all my exposure to music. We had a very good concert series (artists appearing in Toronto at the start of a Western tour would stop in Winnipeg on their way to Minneapolis), but as a teenager it was mostly beyond my means.
My first Met performances were in Minneapolis – at first the Met tours gave three performances on a weekend; later they were extended to seven performances over a week, and I attended every one. There was an added bonus in that some of the singers would be in the same hotel. Waiting to check in early one morning, a gentleman in front of me spoke to the clerk, and the voice was unmistakable – Jan Peerce.
Many years have passed since those first experiences, and I have heard and seen many performances in the U.S. and Europe. But the Met is special – even as the sole beneficiary of my will, nothing can repay what it has given me!
Sincerely,

If the Met has been a part of your past, please join Mori in being a part of its future. To learn how you can create your own legacy to the Metropolitan Opera, please write or call 212.870.7388.
