Special Purpose Programs

In addition to the vitally important Support the Met Broadcasts Campaign, there are a number of other special programs for which the Met seeks support:

  • New Productions: New productions are the life blood of every Metropolitan Opera season, attracting to the Met the world’s greatest opera artists, designers, and directors. They are also the highlights of our national radio broadcast and telecast seasons. New productions may remain in the repertory for 20 years or longer.
  • Lindemann Young Artist Development Program: The Met’s intensive three-year program provides urgently needed, personalized training to the most promising young opera artists. The names of the graduates of this program read like a “who’s who” of gifted young singers in the opera world and attest to the importance of this unique program to opera companies throughout the world.
  • Metropolitan Opera Telecasts: The Met’s award-winning television series enriches the lives of millions in North America and abroad. These telecasts help create a new audience for opera, bring the Met to those who are not able to attend performances in the Opera House and preserve Met productions for future generations of opera lovers.
  • Student/Senior Citizen Ticket Program: The program provides free tickets for students, providing for many their first opera experience and for some the beginning of a life-long interest in the arts. (A number of individuals have created named funds whose purpose is to provide tickets for students from high schools and colleges or universities in which they have a special interest.) The senior citizen community also benefits, for many who are living on limited incomes would not otherwise be able to attend opera performances.
