Making a gift from your IRA during your lifetime
The IRA Charitable Rollover Law has been extended through December 31, 2011. You can move up to $100,000 from your IRA directly to the Metropolitan Opera without paying income taxes on the money.
There are specific legal requirements that must be met, including:
You must be at least 70½ at the time you make your gift.
The gift must be made directly to the Met or other non-profit from your IRA.
You must decline all benefits from the Met that have a monetary value. (You will still be able to receive important membership privileges such as ticket priority and dress rehearsal passes.)
A tax-wise gift to the Metropolitan Opera is a wonderful way to put every dollar to work in support of the Met and the extraordinary performances the company presents.
Our experienced charitable gift and estate planning staff would be pleased to provide you with any additional assistance or materials that you may need.
