ABT's Company Premiere of Ashton's dance drama, A Month in the Country, promises memorable performances in this remarkable retelling of Ivan Turgenev's famous play in which a young tutor's presence provokes competing affections in an elegant Russian household, while the reprise of Mark Morris' valentine to classical ballet creates a majestic tableaux of heart-stopping beauty. Bringing the program to an effervescent close, Balanchine's dazzling masterpiece, Symphony in C, features one of the choreographer's greatest pas de deux and an impressive finale exuding crystalline brio and virtuosity with a cast of over 40 dancers.

A ravishing fantasy set amid verdant forests and majestic temples, Sir Frederick Ashton's mythological love story unites the huntress Sylvia and a lovelorn shepherd with the divine intervention of the deity Eros. The splendid score by Leo Delibes was so admired by Tchaikovsky that he purportedly declared: had he known the music existed at the time, he would never have composed Swan Lake!
