Sublime, mystical, and humorous, Mozart’s final opera is ideally served by Julie Taymor’s dazzling hit production and yet another superb ensemble cast. In a daunting vocal challenge, soprano Diana Damrau alternates between the roles of the innocent Pamina and her fearsome mother, the Queen of the Night. The stylish tenor Eric Cutler and newcomer Joseph Kaiser—star of Kenneth Branagh’s recent film of the opera—share the role of the brave prince Tamino.
