The first new Met production of Gluck's early masterpiece in over 35 years marks the Met debuts of the virtuoso Mark Morris, who directs and choreographs, and designers Allen Moyer (sets) and Isaac Mizrahi (costumes). One of the world's leading counter tenors, David Daniels, takes on the role of Orpheus opposite the rising young soprano Maija Kovalevska as Euridice, who is rescued from the underworld. Heidi Grant Murphy brings her shimmering soprano to the role of Amor, the spirit of Love. James Levine conducts.
The Metropolitan Opera dedicates these performances to the memory of Lorraine Hunt Lieberson.
