The Gambler

Approximate running time 2 hrs. 25 min.

Prokofiev’s gripping interpretation of Dostoyevsky’s tale of compulsion, addiction, and madness comes alive in the hands of Valery Gergiev, displaying his command of Russian repertory. The brash score, evoking the seamy underbelly of Czarist society, is brought to life by a cast of Met veterans and the greatest Russian singers from Gergiev’s legendary Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, including Vladimir Galouzine and Olga Guryakova.
