The supreme bel canto opera—an ideal marriage of vocal refinement and dramatic rigor—returns to the Met with Hasmik Papian and Maria Guleghina sharing the notoriously demanding title role. They perform opposite the formidable mezzo-soprano Dolora Zajick, who sings the role of Norma’s rival, Adalgisa. Maurizio Benini, who led last season’s hit production of Il Barbiere di Siviglia, conducts.
