Così fan tutte

Approximate running time 3 hrs. 35 min.

The Metropolitan Opera is celebrating the 250th anniversary of Mozart’s birth by reviving his comedy of manners Così fan tutte. First heard in Vienna in 1790, it was the third collaboration (after Figaro and Don Giovanni) between Mozart and his librettist Da Ponte. Over the course of 24 hours, we follow the love interests of two sisters whose fiancés pretend to have gone off to war, but who actually disguise themselves to try to seduce the other sister. Many of the arias (including Fiordiligi’s “Come scoglio” and “Per pietà”) rank among Mozart’s greatest.
