All-Prokofiev Celebration — American Ballet Theatre
One of the great composers of the 20th century, Sergei Prokofiev’s genius is celebrated in this program that features the World Premiere On the Dnieper - a sweeping love story set along the banks of the mighty Dnieper River with all-new choreography by Alexei Ratmansky, former artistic director of the Bolshoi Ballet and ABT’s new Artist-in-Residence. The Prokofiev program also includes the Company Premiere of James Kudelka’s Désir one of the great pure-dance ballets that daringly explores the art of pas de deux with a lyrical surge of passionate dancing. This program culminates in a tribute to the centenary of the Russian impresario Serge Diaghilev’s famed Ballets Russes when the biblical parable Prodigal Son takes center stage with George Balanchine’s masterful choreography.
