2009–10's New Productions

Patrice Chéreau, reknowned for his centenary Ring cycle in Bayreuth, makes his U.S. directing debut with Leoš Janáček’s From the House of the Dead. Esa-Pekka Salonen conducts in his Met debut and Peter Mattei leads the ensemble cast. This Met premiere production opens November 12.

Tony Award winner Bart Sher returns to the Met to direct Offenbach's Les Contes d'Hoffmann, conducted by James Levine and opening December 3. Anna Netrebko is Antonia and Alan Held sings the four villains.

Pierre Audi directs the Met premiere of Verdi's Attila, with Ildar Abdrazakov in the title role. Riccardo Muti conducts in his Met debut. Costumes and sets are designed by Miuccia Prada and the architectural team of Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron. Opens February 23, 2010.

Simon Keenlyside and Marlis Petersen star in Ambroise Thomas's Hamlet, in a production by Patrice Caurier and Moshe Leiser. Louis Langrée conducts. Opens March 16.
