The Met's annual concerts in New York City parks are one of the most beloved summer traditions in the city. This year, the company presented a six-performance series of recitals in the parks of all five boroughs. The Summer Recital Series kicked off with a concert at Central Park SummerStage on July 13, featuring Tony Award winner Paulo Szot, who will make his Met debut next season in William Kentridge’s new production of Shostakovich’s The Nose. Szot was joined by rising opera singers Lisette Oropesa, a graduate of the Met’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program, and Alek Shrader, a 2007 National Council Auditions winner, with accompaniment by pianist Vlad Iftinca. Actor/conductor Damon Gupton, a Juilliard graduate, hosted several of the concerts.
