Holiday Festivities in New York (December 10-13, 2009)
ITINERARY
Thursday, December 10
Independent arrivals at the PARK LANE HOTEL on Central Park South. Welcome reception and dinner at the hotel.
This evening: Tchaikovsky’s THE NUTCRACKER (New York City Ballet/David H. Koch Theater, Lincoln Center). This famous production was choreographed by George Balanchine with sets by Rouben Ter-Arutunian and costumes by Karinska.
Friday, December 11
This morning: RADIO CITY CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR (Radio City Music Hall - 10:00 AM). Snow, fireworks, the Rockettes and the wonderful Music Hall itself will be featured in this great program.
Luncheon today at the festive TAVERN ON THE GREEN in Central Park. An experience like no other for over 70 years.
This evening: Offenbach’s LES CONTES D’HOFFMANN (Metropolitan Opera - 8:00 PM). New Production. The cast: Kathleen Kim, Anna Netrebko, Ekaterina Gubanova, Elïna Garanca, Réné Pape. James Levine conducts. Production by Barlett Sher, sets by Michael Yeargan, costumes by Catherine Zuber, choreography by Dou Dou Huang.
Saturday, December 12
Morning and afternoon at leisure.
OPTIONAL PERFORMANCE: Puccini’s IL TRITTICO (Metropolitan Opera - 1:00 PM). The cast: IL TABARRO: Patricia Racette, Salvatore Licitra, Željko Lucic, Stephanie Blythe; SUOR ANGELICA: Patricia Racette, Heidi Grant Murphy, Stephanie Blythe; GIANNI SCHICCHI: Patricia Racette, Saimir Pirgu, Alessandro Corbelli, Stephanie Blythe. Stefano Ranzani conducts. Production by Jack O’Brien, sets by Douglas W. Schmidt, costumes by Jess Goldstein.
Dinner this evening under the glittering Austrian chandeliers in the Metropolitan Opera House at the GRAND TIER.
This evening: Mozart’s LE NOZZE DI FIGARO (Metropolitan Opera - 8:00 PM). The cast: Annette Dasch, Danielle de Niese, Isabel Leonard, Ludovic Tézier, Luca Pisaroni. Fabio Luisi conducts. Production by Jonathan Miller, sets by Peter J. Davison, costumes by James Acheson, choreography by Terry John Bates.
