General Qualifications

Undergraduate or graduate students with a strong interest in arts administration and/or arts education. An ideal candidate is a detail-oriented team-player with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Flexibility and a mature, positive, professional manner are essential. Exceptional writing, organizational and computer skills are necessary, as is proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and the Internet. Experience or background in opera, music or education strongly preferred.



Intern, Met School Membership Program

Responsibilities:

Collaborates with the Met School Membership Program Manager to create classroom preparation materials for select operas in the Met season. Responsibilities include writing, editing and producing Study Guides for distribution to Member Schools and for publications on the Metropolitan Opera International Radio Broadcast Information Center website www.operainfo.org. During the Fall and Spring terms, other responsibilities include assisting with on-site administration of MSM events, including professional development workshops, Final Dress Rehearsals and Director’s Rehearsals at The Metropolitan Opera House. Administrative office duties (photocopying, phone calls, database entry, mailings, etc.) are included. A great way to learn more about opera while gaining administrative experience and sharpening research, writing, and editing skills.

Successful candidates will have a strong background in opera and education and exceptional writing skills. Experience with music notation software is a plus.

Intern, School Partnership Programs

Responsibilities:

Collaborates with the School Programs Administrator to implement Professional Development, School Arts Partnership, and the Research and Professional Development Opera Institute programs. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, preparing documents and gathering supplies and materials for various school partnership programs and professional development events, and writing and editing handouts and materials for Guild programs. As part of the School Programs administrative team, the intern will also have opportunities to participate in professional development sessions and assist with event planning. Administrative office duties (photocopying, phone calls, data entry, invoices, mailings, etc.) are included. Prospective interns seeking a part-time position should be prepared to work three consecutive days each week.

Successful candidates will have exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and writing skills as well as a strong interest in arts education and administration. Musical background and prior teaching or administrative experience is a plus.

Intern, Urban Voices and Mannes Partnership Programs

Collaborates with the Program Manager for the Urban Voices and Mannes Partnership Programs to recruit and implement the program in New York City and Boston schools, working to create schedules by coordinating each school’s schedule with the various choral instructors’ availability and visits and observe the program in participating schools. Additional responsibilities for Urban Voices include maintaining email contact with current and potential Choral Directors in both New York and Boston, assisting in the organization of Professional Development sessions for teachers and Choral Directors, updating budgets, creating invoices, and attending meetings about both programs. Administrative office duties (photocopying, phone calls, mailings, etc.) are included.

Successful candidates will have a strong background in choral music and/or arts education

Intern, Assistant

Responsibilities:

Works with the Director of Education to ensure the smooth day-to-day operations of the Education Department. Responsibilities include drafting correspondence, organizing files, handling faxes and mailings, and maintaining databases.

Successful candidates will be detail oriented with exceptional writing and organizational skills.

Intern, Administration

Responsibilities:

Collaborates with the Director of Programs to oversee and support a variety of Education Department School Programs. Responsibilities include drafting and editing documents, note taking, database management, event planning, budget accounting and overall office organization and database management. Administrative office duties (photocopying, phone calls, database entry, mailings, etc.) are included. This internship is ideal for expanding one’s awareness of all the possibilities in the field of arts administration.

Successful candidates will have strong writing and organizational skills and a background in music or music education.

Intern, Development

Responsibilities:

Works with the Development Associate for Education to secure funding for Education Department programs. Responsibilities include conducting prospect research, creating funding information sheets, and assisting with grant proposals and final reports. Administrative office duties (photocopying, phone calls, database entry, mailings, etc.) are included.

Successful candidates will have exceptional writing and organizational skills, and facility with all Microsoft Office applications.
