…When the famous Alfred Lunt–Cecil Beaton production of La Traviata, one of nine new productions celebrating the opening of the Opera House at Lincoln Center in 1966–67, was in rehearsal, Milnes covered an indisposed Robert Merrill in an Act II blocking rehearsal with Anna. Lunt, who did not speak Italian, asked Sherrill and Anna to “show him something” about the drama between Germont and Violetta. The two singers repeated their San Antonio blocking, which became part of the “Lunt production.”
